What to do if a C&M homework is in greek characters
If a student turns in a homework to you, and it is in greek characters, follow
these steps:
- Go to a Mac where you are allowed to change preferences (many lab
macs won't allow this - the one in the northwest corner of 239
altgeld will)
- Open the homework in mathematica 3.0
- Hold down the option key, and click on the cell that is in greek.
This will select all cells of that type.
- Go to the Format menu and select Option
Inspector. Then select Formatting Options
and then Font Options.
- You should see "Character Encoding----->NeXTCharacterEncoding".
Change this to "Symbol" by clicking on the arrow at the right of
that line, and selecting Symbol from that list.
- Click on the Apply button at the top of the window.
- Go back to the homework. The cells you selected should now be in
readable form. Repeat this process for other types of cells if
necessary.
